"You Attract What You Are": A Reflection on the Punch Needle and Life

"Attiri ciò che sei": Una riflessione sul punch needle e la vita

A punch needle story that taught me a valuable lesson about patience, process, and the art of "being" before "doing."

One of my first punch needle projects

This tapestry was one of my first works with the magic needle. I had just discovered this wonderful technique and was already dreaming of making giant paintings and rugs. I began this project with great enthusiasm, but halfway through, I realized there was still a long way to go and I began to feel tired.

I wanted to finish at all costs. I wanted to finish it immediately, as soon as possible. And this is the leitmotif of many things in my life: everything, immediately .

The "everything now" trap

You often hear people say, "Enjoy the process; the journey is more important than the destination." And although I deeply believe in this principle, I fall for it every time. In everything, everything, and immediately. And if that's not the case, frustration sets in. At best, I continue, but half-heartedly and poorly, not enjoying the process at all. But very often I give up, which is perhaps even worse.

I've finished this tapestry, but if you were to look closely, it's full of imperfections. I started embroidering faster, using longer stitches, and not paying attention to the details—those little things that together make a work so majestically beautiful.

The hidden lesson in embroidery

The most incredible thing is that I was actually embroidering "You attract what you are." If you're in a hurry because you want to finish at all costs and you don't dwell on the joy of the moment, how can you achieve great results? It's so mathematical it's almost scary.

Everything, right now! But at the same time, you want to become a recognized artist... Everything, right now! But at the same time, you want to achieve your goals... Everything, right now! But at the same time, you want to change your life...

But how can you do that if you don't focus on the little things? If you don't work on your "being" and only focus on "doing, doing, doing"?

The importance of "being" before "doing"

It is necessary and fundamental to "be" before "doing" and only then, only in this way, will you be able to "attract" your goals.

But "to be" implies:

  • Stop, breathe, calm your mind

  • Observe what is and live the present consciously

  • Dwell on the details

  • Temporarily abandon the things you are doing if you are tired and unmotivated, to resume them when you are more energized

  • Abandon the limiting belief of "everything now"

  • Listen to yourself, listen to your body and your sensations

  • Feel what comes from within

  • Walking alone in the middle of nature, in silence, and observing

All of this is "being"—the only thing truly worth working on. More than any material goal, there is this goal first: feeling, observing... being.

A message for you who are reading

Do you also fall into the "everything now" mental trap? If you're here, you're most likely interested in the world of embroidery with the magic needle. Maybe you're looking to learn a new creative technique and you've stumbled upon me.

If so, in addition to thanking you from the bottom of my heart for your attention, I invite you with this article to truly enjoy the process , because it is more wonderful than the goal itself.

If you want to learn to embroider with the magic needle but you're just making the first few stitches and they don't come out right, don't give up immediately, saying it's not for you. And don't try to finish that piece of embroidery at all costs, telling yourself, "Even if it doesn't come out right, it doesn't matter."

Everything in life takes time. Some people take less time, some take more. No one is better than anyone else.

Spoiler alert : those who are usually good at one thing and get there first are usually terrible at something else and take forever to master. And guess what, maybe we're the ones who are lightning-fast at something that person is terrible at!

Stop, breathe, look at some my video on YouTube , and then start embroidering again slowly and gently. You'll see the results.

“Everything now” is a limiting belief , perhaps one of the most harmful mental traps that have been instilled in us.

Punch needlework taught me that beauty lies in the process, in the attention to detail, in the patience to build something unique and personal stitch by stitch.

Thank you for reading this far and for taking the time to listen to these words. I truly hope they do you nothing but good.

A kiss ❤️
